We always love finding new things to do when we travel – especially when they only happen for a limited time each year. If you’re looking for a reason to get away this weekend, here are a few fun things to do that we think are totally worth a trip.
Chicago – Let’s be honest, as a kid you probably built a few (dozen) blanket forts at home. Not only was this a way to channel your inner architect, but you also had an official headquarters for your super secret spy operations. Now that the Chicago Children’s Museum has opened their new exhibit, “Forts,” through April 20, you and your family can create play spaces you could never do at home – after all, most of us don’t have upside down tables or random headboards sitting around just for this.
Elko, Nevada - From Jan. 27 through Feb. 1, Elko, Nevada is playing host to the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. While most of us know the tune of “Home on the Range,” this event will give you more than one western tune to keep in your songbook. You can sign up for a workshop to learn to play the Cowboy Harmonica, attend performances, learn to rodeo swing dance and much more during the weeklong festival.
Quebec City – If you love all things snow and ice, then you should head over to the Quebec Winter Carnival between Jan. 31 and Feb. 16. Each year, the snow capital of the world hosts the festival as a way to get together with friends and family. Just be sure to dress warm – this is a festival celebrating all things winter after all. Between the snow sculptures, ice palace, winter sports, dog sled rides and night parades, you’re sure to find plenty to do in this winter wonderland.
These are just a few suggestions for your weekend (or weekday) calendar. What else do you have planned?
