15 must-visit cities in 2015: Part one
A new year means it’s time for one of our favorite things – planning our must-see travel destinations for 2015! After hearing about where and why you want to travel this year, we compiled a list of 15 places we think you all will love visiting this year. It’s a pretty tall order picking only 15 great cities to feature out of the more than 3,800 we serve, but we did knowing there’s something for everyone here. Join us as we virtually travel across North America over three weeks. Our first five stops on this trip are all cities calling the western region their home.
We’re kicking things off in Calgary with a visit to International Avenue. You’ll find both local and international eateries, grocery shops and stores to spend your time in before heading out for some adventure. You can explore the Penguin Plunge or Prehistoric Park exhibits at the Calgary Zoo which is also home to nearly 1,000 animals from around the world. Looking for fast thrills? Calaway Park is Western Canada’s largest amusement park and a lot of fun for anyone wanting some thrills on their vacation! Of course, there’s nothing like the swaying and sights from Calgary Tower! Yes, the tower actually sways in the wind but don’t fret, it’s designed to move up to 16.5 centimeters (or 7.5 inches) in either direction during high winds.
Next it’s time to cross the United States-Canadian border to visit Seattle! A visit to the Space Needle and Pike Place Market are on any must-do list for the city, but we can’t wait to take a ride on one of the the iconic ferry boats. Hop on one of these and take in the breathtaking views of the harbor, city skyline, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
When visiting San Francisco, start by taking a ride on the cable cars before visiting Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Then when you’re hungry, take a look at San Francisco Travel’s dining guide. Any serious foodie with you on this trip could plan the entire vacation around where the next meal is coming from. So you tell us what’s for lunch – the best burger in town or somewhere with a great view?
Merced is the home of endless adventures in Yosemite National Park. Because this national park is open all year long, it’s the perfect destination for the adventurer in you. Hop on the YARTS bus just outside our terminal for direct access to the park where you can bike, hike, take trail rides by horse, rock climb, golf and more. Don’t forget your camera, you’ll leave this vacation with some pretty great photos!
Locals will tell you Phoenix is an amazing city with some of the best weather (just avoid June, July and August). With weather that will let you wear shorts pretty much all year round, Phoenix is perfect for hiking Camelback Mountain and golfing. When it’s time to find some much-loved air conditioning, spend some time at the Arizona Science Center or Children’s Museum of Phoenix.
Next week we’re going to jazz it up a bit and visit a bit of American history, explore the great outdoors and more. Have any guesses as to where we’re headed? Leave a comment below with your guess!
